IN my backyard!

Ask textile folks about dyeing and you’ll get as many answers as there folks.

I’ve been working mostly with fiber reactive for years…with a little bit of work with acid dyes and some natural dyes including indigo and rust.

Natural dyes are a bit of a transition.

There’s a new vocabulary. Dyes are sourced from plants, insects. There are mordants. Some work with cellulose (cotton, linen, for example) and some with protein (wool, silk.)

I’m going to start in my backyard with dye material that’s available nearby.

To make the dyes work, you need some extra materials–some are available locally. Best results can be achieved with specialized supplies.

But, I’m anxious to start, so I’ll begin with what I have while I wait for the proper materials!!
